We, Hessen Film & Medien, are the first point of contact for film funding in Hesse and strengthen the regional film and media industry.
Our Tasks
We support film and media professionals from Hesse and those who want to shoot and produce in Hesse in the planning and realization of their projects
We promote both the artistic and commercial quality of film and series productions: From treatment to production to distribution
We support efficient and flexible structures within the regional film industry with a clear focus on diversity and sustainability
Our goal is to create optimal conditions for Hessen's creative industries and film culture. Two of our focal points are the work with young talent and the promotion of documentary films: Emerging talent should be able to establish themselves as part of the local film industry. We also promote outstanding documentary film formats. We support cinemas and festivals - places where film culture is in focus - as well as series and innovative audiovisual content. In addition to financial support, we also create networking platforms and regularly offer workshops for the further professionalization of the industry.
Our work is designed to pave the way for artistic daring and stands for the promotion of young talent, diversity, social and environmental sustainability and transparent structures. With our STEP continuing education and industry qualification program, we ensure strong young talent and individual continuing education and provide an effective tool to counter the shortage of skilled workers in the film industry.
We encourage film productions and cinemas to take ecologically sustainable measures. Together with other German film institutions, we developed uniform standards for sustainable film production, which came into force on January 1, 2022.
The shareholders of Hessen Film & Medien GmbH are the State of Hesse (90 percent) and Hessischer Rundfunk (ten percent).
