Marburg Receives First-Ever »Film-Friendly Location« Label

News 07. Mar 25

Yesterday, the city of Marburg became the first to be awarded the new »Film-Friendly Location« label. This designation recognizes cities, municipalities, and filming locations that actively support film productions, making shoots easier and positioning themselves as particularly welcoming to filmmakers.

The inaugural award was presented under the patronage of State Minister Timon Gremmels to Dr. Thomas Spies, Mayor of the university city of Marburg. The recognition highlights Marburg’s outstanding commitment to film productions, having served as a filming location for projects such as Ildikó Enyedi’s »Silent Friend« and the Amazon Prime series »Perfekt Verpasst«. More than just a backdrop, Marburg provided a dynamic setting with a distinct character.

Film productions in Hessen not only strengthen the local film industry but also contribute to culture, the economy, and tourism. Marburg has recognized this potential and has actively invested in its role as a film-friendly destination. The award underscores the strategic importance of film projects for regional development and enhances the city’s visibility as an attractive filming location.

Through the FILM IN HESSEN initiative, the Hessian Film Commission fosters collaboration between the film industry, municipalities, and city marketing to create optimal conditions for film productions across the region. The new Film-Friendly Location label serves as a visible marker of commitment and helps productions find the perfect setting for their projects.

As the first »Film-Friendly Location«, Marburg is setting new standards for film hospitality in Hessen, demonstrating how cities can establish themselves as forward-thinking production hubs through creative partnerships.
