The river from which Frankfurt am Main takes its name is the longest tributary of the Rhine and flows through the Rhine-Main region of southern Hesse, from Seligenstadt via Hanau and Frankfurt, until it finally flows into the Rhine at Ginsheim-Gustavsburg in southern Hesse. The banks of the Rhine offer a variety of impressive landscapes, ranging from Frankfurt’s spectacular skyline to the beautiful sandy landscapes of the Schwanheim Dunes and the historic town centre with its monastery gardens in Seligenstadt.
