Alsfeld Market Square

Alsfeld’s market square forms the centre of the historic old town and, architecturally, dates from the late Gothic period, marking the transition to the Renaissance. At its centre stands the town hall, one of the town’s most significant cultural monuments. It was built between 1512 and 1516 and was regarded as a defining influence on the region’s architectural style. The other buildings on the market square complete the cohesive historic centre, featuring structures dating from the 14th to the 19th centuries.
