Landgrave's Castle

Visible from afar, the Landgrave’s Castle towers high above Marburg’s old town and is one of the city’s main attractions. The oldest parts of the building date back to the late 10th/early 11th century, and the interior of Marburg Castle is no less impressive: The magnificent Fürstensaal is regarded as one of the finest secular Gothic halls in Germany, whilst the castle chapel, consecrated in 1288, captivates visitors with its medieval frescoes and multicoloured interior design. Since 1981, the castle has been developing as a museum and a centre for cultural education.
