An extinct volcano and the largest contiguous basalt massif in Europe – between Gießen and Fulda rises the Vogelsberg low mountain range and its highest peak, the Taufstein on the Hoherodskopf. However, at just over 773 metres, this solitary peak hardly stands out within the overall landscape of the Vogelsberg. Nevertheless, on a clear day from the Hoherodskopf, you can even see as far as the Frankfurt skyline, and the area offers a varied landscape of green fields, dense forests and small rivers and lakes.

The Hoherodskopf is a public site and is managed by the Schotten Public Order Office. Please contact this office regarding filming permits and enquiries.
