Marburg Oberstadt

The most famous district in Marburg is undoubtedly the Oberstadt, over which Marburg Castle towers. Narrow alleyways lead to numerous picturesque spots surrounded by medieval half-timbered buildings. The Old University, the Kugelkirche and the Lutheran parish church are particular highlights thanks to their Gothic architecture. The Oberstadt is characterised by a multitude of restaurants and cafés, small owner-run shops and a student-oriented pub scene. Adjacent to the Oberstadt, particularly in the area around the castle, there are numerous Wilhelminian-style villas.
